Mr. Bush has been conducting and managing energy and environmental research since 1976. He has managed work and served as the program manager or principal investigator in the areas of combustion research, coal and biomass conversion, emissions control, emissions measurement, integrated biorefinery systems, and greenhouse gases technology verification. He is Managing Director of GTI R&D programs relating to the conversion of solid fuels into synthesis gas and the cleanup and re-forming of natural and synthesis gas for use in power, chemicals, and liquid fuels production.
Principal Administrator, Energy Technologies Innovation & Clean Coal,DG ENER European Commission
Mr. Maniatis is Principal Administrator in the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission. He is responsible for technical issues related to biofuels and bioenergy and managed the DG ENER demonstration component on advanced biofuels in the 7th Framework Programme. He contributes regularly to the legislative actions of the European Commission and to the European Technology Innovation Platform - Bioenergy of the EU Strategic Energy Technology Plan. He is responsible for drafting the mandates to CEN for standardisation work related to liquid and gaseous biofuels. In June 2011 Kyriakos initiated the Biofuels FlightPath for Aviation in close coordination with the aviation and biofuels sectors. In 2016 he initiated and chaired the Sub Group on Advanced Biofuels of the Sustainable Transport Forum which yielded valuable and state of the art information on advanced biofuels representing the voice of the industry. In 2016 he initiated a series of workshops on CCU with emphasis on benchmarking LCA work. Kyriakos also represents the European Commission in the Executive Committee of IEA Bioenergy Implementing Agreement and served as the ExCo Chairman in 2002, 2005-2007. He regularly organizes workshops and conferences on these subjects such as the International Conference on Lignocellulosic Ethanol (6th ICLE) and Algae Europe 2017.
