Dr. Babu has over forty years of alternative energy conversion RD&D experience, focused on biomass gasification, coal gasification, and natural gas utilization. He worked for over thirty three years with the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT)/Gas Technology Institute or GTI, Des Plaines, Illinois. During this period, he held various R&D positions including Asst. Vice-President Research and Deployment. From 2006 to 2013, Dr. Babu has been associated with TERI - New Delhi, India, E4tech (UK) Ltd - London, UK, German Council for Sustainable Development, GTZ, Berlin, Germany, the Swedish Energy Agency, Stockholm, Sweden, Battelle Science & Technology, Malaysia, and Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY with a variety of renewable energy RD&D initiatives and sustainability issues. From 1989, he has served for 20 years the International Energy Agency (IEA) to lead, the Thermal Gasification of Biomass Gasification activity with representation from twelve OECD countries. Dr. Babu has published over seventy papers and he was awarded three patents. He has a BS & MS in Chemical Engineering from India and a PhD from Illinois Inst. of Technology, Chicago, Illinois. He has won several awards, including the David Hall World Prize for Bio-Energy, at the Second World Biomass Conference in Rome, Italy, May 2004 and the Don Klass Award for Excellence in Thermochemical Conversion, at the GTI Thermochemical Conversion Conference in Chicago, IL, USA, in September 2011. He is a Fellow of GTI.
