GTI Announces tcbiomass2015 Conference and Call for Papers

12/02/14 Des Plaines, IL

Gas Technology Institute (GTI) is pleased to announce that tcbiomass2015—an international conference on thermochemical (TC) biomass conversion science—will take place 2-5 November 2015 in downtown Chicago, IL USA. tcbiomass2015 will bring together the world’s experts in biomass gasification, pretreatment, pyrolysis, and upgrading to explore progress in the bioeconomy.

Developments in the conversion of renewable resources into a variety of fuels, chemicals and energy products is driving the emergence of an increasingly diverse and significant bioeconomy. Thermochemical processes extract maximum product yields from biomass resources. Taking Technology for the Bioeconomy as the overall theme, tcbiomass2015 participants will hear the latest research, development, and deployment results for thermal biomass conversion and upgrading technologies and systems to help grow the bioeconomy and achieve a clean and sustainable energy future.

The conference is organized by GTI, a leading research, development and training organization that addresses global energy and environmental challenges. GTI has unique capabilities in alternative energy development, including extensive experience in the design and operation of thermochemical conversion systems. An optional event at the end of the conference will be the opportunity to tour GTI’s biorefinery pilot plant on Friday, 6 November.

Vann Bush, GTI’s Managing Director, Energy Supply and Conversion, and Kyriakos Maniatis, Principal Administrator in the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission, will return as conference co-chairs. Building off the success of past biennial sessions, tcbiomass2015 is anticipated to attract more than 300 researchers, scientists, engineers, developers, policymakers, commercializers, and funders from around the globe for 3 days of peer-reviewed scientific presentations and posters. Insight into key areas of technology development, market deployment and needed supporting policies will be presented based on panel discussions from industry leaders, renown scientists and government officials.

The Technical Program Committee is now accepting abstracts of 250 to 300 words for the 2015 conference. Researchers and technology developers are invited to share their process innovations and insights to enable the production of clean heat and power, transportation fuels, chemicals, biochar, and other high-value products. All paper submissions are due by 10 April 2015. View more detail on submission topics and guidelines.

The conference will host a competitive Student Poster Challenge to help connect today’s top engineering students with global bioenergy experts. Students will have an opportunity to present their research and receive valuable feedback. The winning individual or team will be awarded with a $1,000 cash prize and the runner-up will be awarded with a $500 cash prize. Students are encouraged to submit poster abstracts by 10 April 2015.

To submit an abstract or to register and take advantage of early-bird rates, visit the tcbiomass2015 website at www.gastechnology.org/tcbiomass2015, or contact tcbiomass@gastechnology.org.
