New Executive Director Named for GTI's Washington Operations

Richard Kaelin has been named Executive Director of Washington Operations at Gas Technology Institute (GTI). In this role, he will lead GTI's government R&D activities and work with various State and Federal elected officials and agencies to secure funding of strategic R&D projects and programs. He will also educate key stakeholders about GTI and our initiatives, and keep them informed about current energy industry trends and issues.
Kaelin has a reputation for penetrating new markets, is knowledgeable about natural gas R&D issues and technologies, and is experienced in working with government officials and agencies. He has a progressive track record of business development and legislative affairs successes across multiple sectors, driven through strong client management, strategic planning and content knowledge.

Throughout his career, Kaelin has excelled in identifying federal funding opportunities and securing contracts, along with developing programmatic growth strategies. Most recently, he was President of Rich Kaelin Consulting, a business development and legislative affairs firm assisting technology clients with strategic advocacy planning, messaging, partnering, and business development.
Prior to that, he was a Partner and equity owner in Federal Business Group, a government relations firm focused on business development and legislative affairs in the defense and energy marketplace. From 2004 to 2009, he spearheaded energy and water segments as an Associate at the PMA Group.
Kaelin started his career in 1998 working for Congressman Peter Visclosky (IN -1). He began as part of the congressional staff, advanced to Appropriations and Legislative Director, and culminated as Chief of Staff, where he remained until 2003. Kaelin has a Bachelor of Arts, Political Science degree from Gettysburg College, PA.
